China-U.S. university Shanghai New York University (NYU Shanghai) held its first graduation ceremony Sunday.

NYU Shanghai was established in 2012 as China's first China-U.S.university operating as an independent legal entity. It is jointly run by New York University and East China Normal University.

A total of 264 graduates from China, the United States and 31 other countries earned their NYU bachelor's degrees as well as their NYU Shanghai diplomas.

NYU President Andrew Hamilton said they are the first class to graduate from this extraordinary experiment in global education.

Chancellor of NYU Shanghai Yu Lizhong said that the world need creative talent with global vision, who are good at cross-cultural communication and cooperation. He asked the students to be a link connecting China with the world.

There are over 1,100 students from over 60 countries, including the 264 graduates, studying in the university in 2017. Nearly half of the graduates will further their study and others will enter the job market.

Following the founding of NYU Shanghai, more China-U.S. universities such as Duke Kunshan University (DKU) and Wenzhou Kean University were set up in China.
