A bag that traveled 1,500 kilometers hanging from the landing gear of a passenger jet from Beijing was spotted on Monday after landing in Gansu Province.
The bag of tools - forgotten by a maintenance worker before takeoff - was discovered during a routine check after the Air China plane's arrival, a ground handler at Lanzhou Zhongchuan International Airport told Southern Metropolis Daily.
Ameco, an aircraft maintenance and engineering company, admitted on Tuesday that the bag was left by an employee before the plane took off in Beijing.
As there was a heavy rain in Beijing on Monday, the employee put the bag on the wheels to keep it dry but forgot to retrieve it before the plane took off.
Photos posted online show the black tool bag was unzipped.
Air China confirmed the incident on Tuesday.
The news sparked a mixed bag of comments on social media.
"That was quite dangerous. What if the bag had gotten stuck somewhere important during turbulence?" wrote "xiongpipipi" on Sina Weibo.
