The Chinese version of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Original Screenplay hit bookstores in the Chinese mainland on Saturday.

Published by the People's Literature Publishing House, the book was translated by Ma Ainong, who translated the Harry Potter series into Chinese, and Ma Jia, the translator who worked on the Chinese subtitles for the Fantastic Beasts film hit mainland cinemas on November 25.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Original Screenplay is J.K. Rowling's first screenplay. The story takes place in the US in 1926 and has a number of crossovers with the author's Harry Potter series.

"We got the English screenplay in November of last year, after which we began a tense period of translating, editing, proofreading and typesetting the book. We sent the finished book to Mrs. Rowling and received her praise," Zang Yongqing, editor-in-chief of the People's Literature Publishing House, said at a press conference for the book's launch on Saturday.

The Fantastic Beasts film, which stars Eddie Redmayne, is the first in a new series of films, the second of which is set to hit North America in November 2018.

"Presumably, the whole series may take 10 years to shoot and finish," Zang said.
