The Association of small cities of Ukraine, which unites 351 Ukrainian cities in the country, signed a memorandum on Thursday to join the Silk Road Cities Alliance.

The deal was signed during the Sino-Ukrainian cultural exchanges week in Kiev by Wu Bixiu, General Secretary of the Silk Road Cities Alliance, and Pavel Kozyrev, Chairman of the Association of the small cities of Ukraine.

While addressing the signing ceremony, Kozyrev voiced hope that the cooperation between the two organizations will contribute to the development of Chinese and Ukrainian communities.

"The small cities in Ukraine are interested in becoming a part of the Silk Road infrastructure. Moreover, they are willing to make this road a two-way traffic," Kozyrev said.

For her part, Wu said the Silk Road Cities Alliance is glad to incorporate with the Ukrainian cities and voiced her hope for the win-win cooperation.

The week-long Sino-Ukrainian cultural exchanges week kicked off in Kiev on April 24, featuring a string of cultural events and economic discussions.

The festival, named "One Belt One Road" Week, is dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Ukraine and the upcoming Belt and Road forum for international cooperation in Beijing in May.
