Two unknown individuals shot a Chinese woman on Wednesday night in Chimoio, Mozambique's central Manica province, the Chinese Embassy told Xinhua Thursday.
The embassy said the woman was still in danger and had been sent to Beira, the second largest city in Mozambique, for better treatment. The police is still working to identify the criminals.
Mozambique News Agency quoted a local witness from the same building that two criminals interceded the victim when she was ready to take the stairs after returning from work.
The other citizen, presumed to the husband of the victim, was inside the house when the incident occurred.
"The Chinese couple arrived here in their car. We also saw two men from another car jumped out and went after the Chinese couple. Minutes later we heard two shots, one of which was in the head of the Chinese lady, later the same men jumped back to their car and drove away with a purse," the witness said.
