"Vietnam vowed to handle a case that a Chinese tourist was beaten by local border defense officers in accordance with the nature of the incident, said the Vietnam Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) on Wednesday.

The statement was released by the MoFA's Consular Department while addressing Xinhua reporter's inquiry over Vietnamese response to the fact that the Chinese tourist was beaten by local border defense officers in Vietnam's northern China-bordering Mong Cai city.

"Vietnam and China are two neighboring countries with traditional friendship relations. Tourism and people-to-people exchange activities are taking place more and more frequently with increasing numbers."

"Over the past time, two countries' citizens have been created with favorable conditions during their entry-exit processes to each country, thus helping enhance communication and mutual understanding between the two peoples," said the department.

"Vietnam has received Chinese side's feedback of the issue happening in Mong Cai. Vietnamese relevant authorities are promptly clarifying related information and will handle it in accordance with the nature of the incident," the department affirmed.
