Peng Shuai has advanced to the quarterfinals of the women's doubles at the Australian open after a convincing straight sets win with partner Andrea Hlavackova from the Czech Republic.

The pairing defeated Slovenian Andreja Klepac and Spaniard Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez in a dominant 6-2, 6-0 in 72 minutes, lining up a battle against Russian pairing, third seeds Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina.

"Entering the last eight is the best result I (have) got in the doubles (at the) Australian Open," Peng told reporters.

"I will cooperate well with my teammate to do our best in the coming matches (and) hope we can go further."

Peng's doubles win caps of a tough day for China with Xu Yifan progressing to the quarters with mixed doubles partner Fabrice Martin, while junior girls third seed Wang Xiyu had a battle on her hands. Wang managed to progress to the next round, coming from behind to take the match 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 over Poland's Maja Chwalinska.

But, in the boys, 13th seed Zhao Lingxl was downed in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2 by Czech Michael Vrbensky, while Wang Xin and Ma Shuyue lost their respective junior girls doubles matches in straight sets.
