On Jan. 15, a man surnamed Liu in Changsha, Hunan province received 1.2 billion RMB in his recently opened bank account. His bank, which was responsible for the mistake, quickly contacted Liu and guided him to return the money.
Liu opened the bank account around 3 p.m. Not long after, the bank called him and requested that he deal with a large deposit that had been mis-wired to his account due by a new employee. After Liu complied, the bank presented him with a pack of cigarettes and 200 RMB as a gesture of appreciation.
It was eventually determined that the bank employee at fault entered the card number in the field that is supposed to contain the sum to be transferred. Liu said he never imagined that the accident would draw so much attention online, and he saw no need to blame the employee.
