Chinese police cracked 93,000 cases of telecom and Internet fraud from January to November this year, penalizing 52,000 offenders, according to statistics released by the Supreme People's Court (SPC) on Tuesday.

The statistics were released together with a circular jointly put forward by the SPC, Supreme People's Procuratorate and Ministry of Public Security to clarify problems with law application in handling telecom and Internet fraud criminal cases.

The circular specified that suspects will be handed harsh penalties for involvement in ten scenarios. These include fraud leading to suicide or mental illness in victims or their close relatives; impersonation of officers of state organs; organizing or practicing fraud overseas; defrauding the disabled, seniors, juveniles, students, or the severely ill; fraud in the name of charity or disaster-relief money; and fraud through Trojan programs or phishing websites.
