A dialogue between the Communist Party of China and the Kuomintang party will be held on Dec. 23 in Beijing, a mainland spokesperson said Tuesday.

An Fengshan, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said the exchange will focus on relations between the two parties and cross-Strait ties, aiming to promote exchanges, cooperation, cross-Strait stability and the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations.

An was also asked to comment on Taiwan's legislative body lowering the threshold for a referendum by adopting a "law amendment."

"We firmly oppose 'Taiwan independence' activities or moves that open the door to 'Taiwan independence' launched by any force or any means, including the means of so called legislation or law revision," he said.
