Chinese cloud computing company Sugon Information Industry Co Ltd said it has mass-produced its most powerful cloud server to date, in order to meet the rapidly increasing demand both locally and abroad.

The company said its Sugon Galaxias SDC 1000 is a server that allows simultaneous access by billions of users.

"Galaxias SDC 1000 has an improved performance per watt of more than three times that of traditional servers and cuts costs by 70 percent," said Sugon Vice-President Nie Hua.

The company said the product is now being used in large cloud-based applications developed by China Telecom, China UnionPay and China Education Television.

"The mass production of Galaxias SDC 1000 is of great importance to the whole cloud server market," said Nie.

According to the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, the cloud computing market could be worth as much as $143.5 billion globally by 2020 and China is one of the world's fastest-growing markets. The United States took the lead with a 56.5 percent share of the global cloud computing market last year and is expected to build on that lead in the years to come, according to the academy.

"We still lag behind the U.S. in terms of service capacity and industry scale in cloud computing and the whole ecosystem of this industry still needs to be perfected," he said.

However, Nie affirmed China had a great opportunity to take a leading role in the cloud computing sector, and it is important that mainland players focused on technological innovation to keep up with the rising demand and ever-changing market.

"Even though we still have a lot to catch up with compared to the U.S., the Galaxias SDC 1000 marks the rise of China in the cloud computing industry," he said.

The new cloud sever will promote the upgrading of traditional cloud data centers. Nie said it will be applied in a wide range of industries such as telecom, finance, government affairs, scientific research and education, energy and power.
