A new case of H7N9 avian flu was reported in south China's Guangdong Province in November, Guangdong provincial health and family planning commission said on Friday.

The male patient, 81, was from the city of Meizhou. He has been cured and discharged from the hospital.

It is the 13th H7N9 case reported in Guangdong in 2016.

The number of infections this year decreased by 81.4 percent compared with the same period of 2015, according to the commission.

H7N9 is a bird flu strain first reported to have infected humans in March 2013 in China. It is most likely to strike in winter and spring.
