The municipal government posted new plans for the city's transportation sector during the 13th Five-Year Plan period, declaring that it will improve the management of private vehicle ownership and usage in order to effectively decrease the city's surging automobile use, thepaper.cn reported.
According to the new plans, the government will gradually adjust the Shanghai license plate policy in order to reflect factors such as traffic congestion and the environment.
To deal with the issue of traffic congestion, the government plans to upgrade current transportation networks. Around 60 new miles of expressways and passageways across major rivers in the city will be built.
As for parking problems, the municipality will build new parking areas in neighborhoods and for hospitals and schools where parking spaces are in dire scarcity.
