Japanese anime, manga and games culture has become very popular in China. Leading this charge is Sohu TV's newest streaming show Weapon Soul, which pulls heavily on the Japanese magical weapon genre.

On Monday, Sohu TV, one of China's largest streaming platforms, announced that the show will debut on Wednesday.

A preview episode of the show has been viewed nearly 70 million times, leaving audiences guessing how the show will unfold.

The story takes place in a world where people known as "Soul Masters" wield weapons that can change into human beings.

Describing the show as one of Sohu TV's key dramas this year, Sohu TV's Ma Ke said the series will take mainland-made dramas to an all new level.

The release of the preview episode is an attempt to learn from U.S. TV streaming platforms that release preview episodes up to a month before the official launch of a series to build audience interest.

The first season of Weapon Soul will consist of 15 episodes, with the streaming site airing brand new episodes every Wednesday and Thursday.
