The former head of a state-owned company in south China's Guangdong Province went on trial for allegedly taking 570 million yuan (84 million U.S. dollars) in bribes and public property.

The hearing of Zhuang Yao, former president of Guangdong Materials Group, was held at the Intermediate People's Court of Maoming City, Guangdong from Tuesday to Thursday.

Prosecutors accused Zhuang of taking bribes worth 16.5 million yuan from 2002 to 2012 and of embezzling pubic property worth 554 million yuan independently or with others from 1999 to 2009.

The company was renamed Guangdong GW Holdings Group Co., Ltd. in November 2015.

The verdict will be announced another day.
