Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Tuesday that China is willing to continuously play a constructive role in Myanmar's peace process.

Xi told visiting Myanmar's Commander-in-Chief of Defense Services Sen-Gen Min Aung Hlaing that China respects Myanmar's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and hopes the country will achieve national reconciliation as early as possible.

China pays significant attention to the security and stability of China-Myanmar border areas, Xi said, calling on both sides to continue their longstanding "paukphaw" (fraternal) friendship.h Speaking highly of bilateral cooperation in recent years, Xi said both countries should seize the opportunity and give new meaning to China-Myanmar ties in the new era, so as to bring benefits to the people of both countries.

Applauding China-Myanmar military ties, Xi, also chairman of the Central Military Commission, expects the two sides to deepen cooperation and jointly safeguard the common interests of the two countries as well as regional peace and stability.

Min Aung Hlaing said that Myanmar attaches significant importance to its ties with China and is committed to developing bilateral relations, including friendly cooperation between the two armed forces.

He said Myanmar stands ready to work with China to safeguard stability of their border areas.

Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission Xu Qiliang met with Min Aung Hlaing later Tuesday.
