The Chinese Embassy in Myanmar donated on Monday over 3 million doses of Hepatitis B vaccines for 3.3 million children in the country.

It is the second batch of such medicine donated to Myanmar since 2014.

China will continue to help Myanmar in the health sector, especially for child health, and provide other required medicines, said Hong Liang, Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar, at the handover ceremony in Yangon.

About 6.5 percent of people across Myanmar are infected with Hepatitis B.

Dr. Myint Htwe, Minister for Health and Sport, expressed his thanks to China, saying that the donated medicines are qualified and effective as recommended by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The medicines were manufactured by Beijing Tintang Bio-products company and donated by a China- based foreign pharmacy trade company under SINOPHARM Group Co. Ltd.

The two governments agreed in 2012 for providing 6.765 million doses of Hepatitis B vaccines for children in Myanmar in two batches valued over 35.5 million yuans (over 5 million U.S. dollars ).
