Recent floods, landslides and debris flows in southwest China's Sichuan and Yunnan Provinces have left at least 14 people dead and nine missing, the Ministry of Civil Affairs said Thursday.

As of 9 a.m. on Thursday, the disasters had caused 140 million yuan (about 21 million U.S. dollars) of damage, affecting 2,700 hectares of farmland, with more than 200 hectares failing to yield any crops.

More than 500 houses have collapsed, with 3,700 others damaged, the ministry said. Nearly 5,400 people have been evacuated.
