Santiago de Cuba will deepen ties of cooperation with Shanghai, especially in education, agriculture and culture, delegates from the Cuban province said yesterday.

They were visiting Shanghai to mark the 20th anniversary of the establishment of their sister cities' relationship — as well as being a province Santiago de Cuba is also the name of second largest city after Havana in the Spanish speaking country.

The three-person delegation, headed by Dania Lopez Gulbone, vice governor of the Cuban province, and accompanied by Lisbet Quesada Luna, the Consul General of Cuba in Shanghai, visited Shanghai Library yesterday and donated 15 Spanish books about history and culture of Santiago de Cuba.

Gulbone said the Cuban library was trying to digitalize its resources and service and would learn from its counterpart in Shanghai, where the service was highly digitalized.

The Cuban delegation will meet officials of the Shanghai education and agriculture committees today to talk about possible cooperation programs covering pre-school, vocation and special education.

The delegation will also visit a local special school today.

Gulbone said her delegation was also interested in introducing Shanghai's urban agriculture models into Santiago de Cuba and, in turn, exporting their fruit to Shanghai.
