Typhoon Malakas and Typhoon Meranti left 29 people dead and 15 missing in five provincial-level Chinese regions as of 9 a.m. Monday, according to the Ministry of Civil Affairs.

Triggering strong wind and downpours, the two typhoons have hit Shanghai Municipality and the provinces of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian and Jiangxi since Sept. 14.

Over 7,300 houses collapsed and 61,000 houses were damaged to varying degrees, while 618,000 people were evacuated to safer places.

Typhoons also destroyed 106,700 hectares of crops. Total direct economic losses have been estimated at 15.48 billion yuan (2.32 billion U.S. dollars).
