Shanghai will add an additional 600 i-Shanghai free Wi-Fi spots by the end of the year and optimize the user experience of the pre-existing 1,100 spots, according to the Laodong Daily.

A filed testing on 12 places with i-Shanghai services conduced at the beginning of the year found out that though most spots have good access to network connections, some still have weak and intermittent Wi-Fi signals and problems opening the log-in page.

To improve customer satisfaction and have a direct knowledge about operation of the network, Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization will initiate a third-party test on Internet quality, beginning with places with heavy pedestrian volume or the most complaints.

An app will be launched to identify network congestion and recommend spots with stronger Internet coverage.

Apart from i-Shanghai, the city has newly established 79 and 30 public WLAN networks in Changning and Qingpu districts, respectively.

Shanghai will increase i-Shanghai spots by 3,000 within the 13th Five-year Plan (2016-20).
