At least three Afghans were injured in a bomb attack in central Kabul on Monday, a witness said.

"The blast occurred roughly at 9:00 a.m. (0430 GMT) in east of Ahmad Shah Massoud Square," witness Abdul Shah told Xinhua.

Unofficial sources said the blast was triggered by a bomb attached to a car belonging to an Afghan Defense Ministry official.

The targeted vehicle was parked on the roadside in Second Macroryan, where the Afghan Supreme Court and U.S. embassy are located.

"Three injured were shifted by security force and people to a nearby hospital. The blast also damaged several shops around the site and shattered the windows of nearby apartment buildings," according to Shah.

Security forces have cordoned off the area for precautionary measures and the incident caused a traffic jam in the area during the morning rush hour, Shah added.

So far, no one has claimed responsibility for the attack, but the Taliban militant group has launched similar attacks in the past.
