About 71.3 percent of workers in Taiwan shopped online in the 12 months up to July 2015, up 4.7 percent from the previous recording year, according to the results of a survey by the island's labor department released Wednesday.

Female workers were more enthusiastic about online shopping, with 78.4 percent of female workers having shopped online in the recording year. The reading for male workers was 12.8 percent lower.

A total of 53.4 percent of the surveyed workers said they would become anxious or worried if they do not access the Internet for a certain period of time, according to the survey. Among them, about 12.7 percent said they could not tolerate living without the Internet.

In addition, the survey, conducted through telephone, revealed that 57.1 percent of respondents felt anxious if they were away from their mobile phones for a certain period of time.

More than 4,600 samples were collected in the survey, according to the department.
