A total of 27 people have been held accountable or investigated over the death of a woman during the demolition of a house in central China's Hunan Province, local authorities said on Tuesday.

A woman's body was found on Thursday under debris of a house demolished on June 16 at a village in the provincial capital Changsha.

An investigation found that the death was caused by negligence when the house was demolished to make way for new homes.

The house demolished belongs to Yang Jun and Yang Quan, authorities said. Yang Quan's mother Gong Xuehui was still in the house when it was demolished. Neither officials nor workers were aware of her presence which led to her death, the investigation found.

The local procuratorate has begun an investigation into seven officials involved in the demolition, including the local Party secretary and the village head.

Police have also taken coercive measures against four workers suspected of being directly responsible for Gong's death. Another 16 people, including officials, police officers and others in the village, have been punished in accordance with Party and government rules.
