Following the launch of Apple Pay as well as Samsung Pay, Android Pay, Google's mobile payment system, was launched in Singapore on Tuesday, making the lion city the first country in Asia and also the third in the world to have this system.

Android Pay is available on all Android devices that are near-field communication-enabled and running on Android KitKat 4.4 and above.

MasterCard and Visa cards from banks such as DBS, OCBC, POSB, Standard Chartered and UOB, will be part of the service, and there's no limit for the number of cards to be added.

Android Pay was first launched in the United States in September last year, while in May this year, Britain has become the second country to have it. Singapore was selected as the third market "because of its ready base of mobile-savvy consumers as well as a mature ecosystem," said Pali Bhat, senior director of product management at Google in a media briefing.
