Two people are dead and another is missing after a rainstorm pounded a county in southwest China's Guizhou Province from Monday evening to Tuesday morning.

The county seat of Zhijin was inundated by rain-triggered floods. Power supply, traffic and communication in the county have been disrupted, according to the local publicity department.

As of 11:44 a.m. on Tuesday, 8,685 residents have been relocated to safe places. The storm flooded 783 homes and damaged 18,355 mu (1,223.7 hectares) of crops.

It also resulted in 60 mudslides in Zhijin. Fifteen vehicles were reported to have been washed away by floods. All the townships' communications were cut off.

Direct economic losses have reached 115.6 million yuan (17.4 million U.S. dollars), the publicity department said.
