Power supply has been restored to a city in east China's Jiangsu Province after it was hit by a deadly tornado late last week, according to Jiangsu Provincial Electric Power Company.

The tornado and a hailstorm swept into Yancheng on Thursday, toppling houses, damaging telegraph poles and destroying a solar panel factory where hazardous chemicals had been stored.

The government of Yancheng said on Sunday that 1,591 people made homeless are staying in temporary shelters in two counties. The natural disaster killed 99 people and injured 846, and power supply to 135,000 households in Yancheng was cut off.

The city's power supply company dispatched 15 emergency rescue teams consisting of 918 repair workers and 356 specialist vehicles. The Jiangsu Provincial Electric Power Company also sent personnel and vehicles from other cities. Nearly 10,000 people participated in the emergency repair work.
