The National Office Against Pornographic and Illegal Publications (NOAPIP) on Friday launched a campaign to promote healthy and appropriate reading choices for children.

Education authorities will disseminate posters and bookmarks promoting healthy reading to primary and middle schools.

There have already been various kinds of book-signing activities and public lectures by renowned Chinese authors including Cao Wenxuan, winner of the Hans Christian Andersen Prize.

The department asked TV stations and major online streaming sites to broadcast short infomercials about the dangers of harmful publications.

NOAPIP also opened an official account on WeChat, which it will utilize for promotional and information services.
