Featuring everything from Buddhist statues to holy relics and Thangka paintings, the exhibition Holy Objects of the Enlightened Ones: Collection of Sarahaba Rinpoche currently at the Baimamedo Art Center in Beijing's 798 Art Zone provides a window for viewers to see Tibetan Buddhist culture from hundreds of years ago.
Among the 33 items on display, the most precious is the a Terma Buddha statue that dates back to 12th century. A total of 13 Thangka paintings that belong to Sarahaba Rinpoche's personal collection are also on display, the first time they have been showcased outside the Tibetan areas.
According to a representative from exhibition organizer the Zagya Monastery, each painting carries with it a story about how it was passed down through the generations and how it reflected Tibetan Buddhism during different periods.
The exhibition is scheduled to end on May 23.
Art lectures on Tibetan paintings and Thangka art will also be held at the center.
