Seven people were injured when a tornado swept through part of southern China's Guangdong Province on Sunday, authorities said Monday.

Four of the injured were taken to hospital around 4:30 p.m., after the tornado damaged more than 540 buildings in three villages, said the emergency response office of Shantou City Government in a written statement.

The aluminum roof of a 2,000-sq-m building was swept away in Hecuo Village, leaving two people hospitalized. Another five injured were reported in Yangmei and Shigu villages, it said.
