The Chinese Academy of Press and Publication released its 13th survey on national reading habits on April 18. The report shows that in 2015, the average Chinese citizen read 4.58 printed books and 3.26 digital books. Fifty-eight percent of Chinese adults read at least one book in 2015, up 0.4 percent from 2014, while digital reading rate was at 64 percent, 5.9 percent higher than in 2014. The comprehensive reading rate for all types of media was 79.6 percent, up 1 percent from 2014.

Because of the rapid development of digital media, digital reading (online reading, mobile reading, e-book reading, etc.) in 2015 was noticeably more popular than in the past. The frequency of mobile reading rose the fastest; in 2015, 60 percent of Chinese adults read on mobile devices, 8.2 percent more than in 2014.

According to the report, the average daily mobile reading time of Chinese adults was 62.21 minutes in 2015, 28.39 minutes longer than in 2014. This is the largest year-on-year increase to date.

The report also said that 51.9 percent of Chinese adults read WeChat in 2015, 17.5 percent higher than in 2014.
