The maximum accommodation expenses of ministerial-level officials for business trips to Beijing increased to 1,100 yuan ($169), according to new regulations on business travel expenses of officials.

In its latest notice, the Ministry of Finance (MOF) said ministerial-level officials who travel to seven cities in South China's Guangdong Province, including Guangzhou and Shenzhen, are allowed 900 yuan per day on accommodations, while for other cities in the province the maximum is 850 yuan.

However, the MOF's previous circular set the standard for the province as a whole at 900 yuan.

According to the notice, the maximum expense of ministerial-level officials for business trips to Beijing and Shanghai rose to 1,100 yuan from 800 yuan per day in 2015. The standard will take effect on May 1.

China has been clamping down on corruption and trying to instill greater discipline in civil servants, as the public criticized the officials' use of government funds for overseas leisure trips, using official vehicles for personal errands, and enjoying luxurious receptions and accommodations.

The top disciplinary watchdog said that officials, including department-level officials, are limited to economy-class air tickets and accommodations at single or standard rooms.

The MOF adjusted the accommodation expenses for employees of the central government, State-level public institutions and State-owned enterprises, who travel to major cities on January 1. But it did not reveal the standards for travelling to other cities, prefectures and counties.
