A former senior legislator in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has been indicted for accepting bribes.

Prosecutors in Xining, capital of Qinghai Province, have informed Li Zhi, former deputy head of the standing committee of the regional People's Congress, of his litigation rights and questioned him, the Supreme People's Procuratorate said in a statement on Thursday.

The indictment said Li took advantage of his posts to seek benefits for others, asking for and accepting a huge amount in bribes.

The Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Commission for Discipline Inspection announced in March 2015 that Li was under investigation for violating the law and Party codes of conduct.

He was expelled from the CPC in July 2015.
