The publicity chief of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has called on the country's literary circle to create works that have high artistic value and are appreciated globally.
Liu Qibao, head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks on Tuesday at a meeting on Chinese literature for children entering the world stage.
Congratulating on children's fiction writer Cao Wenxuan's winning of the Hans Christian Andersen Prize 2016 earlier this month, Liu stressed that a writer should "always maintain their passion for and belief in writing and spread good values to help people discover the beauty of life, nature and mind."
"[Writers] should be adept at telling genuine Chinese stories through literary means and conveying emotions common to all mankind so as to better spread Chinese values, notions and spirit," Liu said.
Liu urged them to find inspiration and collect materials from the country's traditional spirit and grassroots lives.
