A woman was killed yesterday afternoon when she was struck by a piece of glass window pane that fell from the 21st floor of an upscale residential building located in the Wuchang district of Wuhan, the capital city of Hubei province.

The woman was pronounced dead by local police at the scene. The victim's name is being withheld, according to Chutian Metropolis Daily, a Wuhan-based newspaper.

At around 2 p.m., reporters arrived on the scene. Police had already set up a barricade, and the victim was lying in a pool of blood in front of the No. 8 apartment unit entrance. The piece of glass that struck her was seen near the body.

The woman, wearing a bright yellow uniform, was delivering lunchboxes when the glass fell from the 21st floor of the building. The woman's electric bicycle, along with several take-away lunch boxes, was also on the ground.

Faced with sudden tragedy, the victim's grieving cousin, Wang, said the deceased was a 45-year-old migrant worker from Henan province. She had started to work as delivery woman only one month before.

An employee from the building's property management office said the window fell from an apartment that was being remodeled. Two workers as well as the owner of the apartment were taken by police for questioning.
