China's railways saw an increase of passengers during the Tomb-Sweeping Day, or Qingming, travel rush, the railway authorities announced Tuesday.

Over the four days leading up to Monday, 41.27 million railway journeys were made, 13 percent higher than the same period last year, according to the China Railway Corp.

Of that number 4.41 million trips were undertaken by the Beijing railway bureau, up 15.5 percent year on year, and 8.38 million by the Shanghai railway bureau, up 15 percent year on year.

Bullet trains recorded rising traffic, with 20.72 million trips made during the period, up 31 percent year on year.

To cope with demand, 1,849 extra trains were added to the schedule in the four days, the corporation said.
