Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Al-Maktoum on Wednesday approved imposing a new airport fee of 35 dirham (about 9.5 U.S. dollars) for passengers leaving the long-haul air travel hub, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) state news agency WAM reported.

"The resolution aims to improve Dubai's airport infrastructure and boost its capacity, which is set to reach 100 million passengers by 2023," said the report.

The collected fees will be transferred to Dubai airports, and subsequently to the Dubai government public treasury, the report said.

The new rule applies to flights leaving after June 30 that have been booked starting March 1.

In 2015, Dubai International Airport, also called DXB, welcomed 78 million travelers, up by 10.7 percent year-on-year.
