Macao's largest telecom operator CTM will provide city-wide free Wifi service to help the special administrative region become a global tourism center, the head of the company said on Tuesday.

CEO Poon Fuk Hei told the press that CTM plans to increase its Wifi spots to 2,400 in this year, providing faster and more convenient service for Macao people and tourists.

According to CTM's annual report, its revenue for 2015 was 5,182 million patacas (about 649 million U.S. dollars), and the profit was 1,154 million. It has invested 693 million patacas in infrastructure projects, 33 percent more than that in 2014.

CTM also had fiber-optic full coverage throughout Macao last year, and now is ready to provide 4G-plus with speed of 300 Mbps.

CTM was set up in 1981 in Macao by Britain's Cable and Wireless, Portuguese Marconi Company, CITIC Pacific and the Macao Post. Now CITIC Telecom International is the controlling shareholder (99 percent), while the Macao Post holds the remaining 1 percent.
