A Chinese envoy to the United Nations Thursday called on the international community to help Haiti hold the second round of presidential election on schedule.

"We must do all we can to facilitate the holding of the election on schedule," Liu Jieyi, China's permanent representative to the UN, told the UN Security Council.

The second round of presidential election is scheduled for April 24 and a new government is expected to come into being in May.

"We hope these processes will bring new opportunities to peace and stability in Haiti," he said, adding that though recent situation in the Carribean country has been calm, it is still "complicated and fragile. "

"China hopes that all parties in Haiti will remain united and solve their differences through dialogue and consultation in order to maintain stability in the country and create favorable conditions for the holding of the second round of presidential election and the establishment of the new government," he said.

The envoy expressed hope that regional organizations will continue to provide help and support to the election based on respecting the ownership of Haiti.

"We should help Haiti in accelerating its economic development and improving its humanitarian situation," Liu added, noting that development is "the master key" to solve the country's problem.

The international community should honor the commitment to Haiti on time and disburse fund for humanitarian relief so the Haitian government can achieve development at an earlier date, Liu said.
