China is willing to work with Indonesia to improve anti-terrorism cooperation to safeguard security and stability in the two countries and the region, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Thursday.

Spokesperson Lu Kang made the remarks in response to the recent report that Indonesian security forces have killed two terrorists from China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

"We have noticed relevant report and now we are verifying the situation," Lu said, noting that China and Indonesia understand and support each other on anti-terrorism issues.

Both China and Indonesia are the victims of terrorism and are facing more threats brought by changes in the international and regional situation, Lu said.

In recent years, the East Turkistan Islamic Movement (ETIM) have colluded with the terrorists and extremist organizations in Indonesia to open the channel of personnel transfer to participate in international terrorism activities, Lu said, adding that such a move threatens China's national security and harms Indonesia's social stability.

ETIM is a terrorist group listed by the United Nations Security Council.
