China will heat up in the next few days, with temperatures in some areas surging by 12 degrees Celsius, the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) said on Wednesday.

Daytime temperatures in parts of north China are forecast to shoot up to 20 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, while areas along the Yangtze River Delta are expected to see temperatures rebound to 20-25 degrees Celsius.

The CMA said north China will also be hit by smog over the next three days. It will be particularly heavy in parts of Beijing, and the provinces of Hebei and Shandong.

People should take precautions to protect themselves during the smoggy period, the CMA said.

Fog will also reduce visibility to less than 500 meters in some parts of northeast China and south China, according to the forecast.
