A 35-year-old married man who survived a consensual homicide pact with his lover was sentenced to 15 years in jail, Shanghai Pudong New Area People's Court said yesterday.
The man, surnamed Xu, and his married lover agreed to fatally stab each other after their spouses refused to grant them divorces, the court said.
Xu, a truck driver for a Jiaxing-based factory, met the victim, surnamed Ding, while on a business trip to the city in 2011. The two soon fell in love and began an affair.
On March 17, 2014, they met at a riverbank pavilion in the Pudong New Area. Xu took out a knife and the two used it to stab each other.
Locals saw them and called police, who found Ding dead from hemorrhagic shock and Xu still alive with serious abdominal injuries.
