The performances have been held in over 109 countries and regions for overseas Chinese during the traditional Chinese Lunar New Year in the past seven years with more than 412 million audiences worldwide.

Saturday's performances attracted not only overseas Chinese, but also many South Africans.

Western Cape Minister of Finance, Dr Ivan Meyer said the show was a great event, taking place at a right time and a right place and being enjoyed by the right people.

He said the show was part of cultural exchanges between South Africa and China which help promote understanding between the two peoples.

Capetonians want to see more of such performances, he said.

The show was organized and supported by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office (OCAO) of the State Council of China, presented by the Cape Town Association for Peaceful Renification of China, South Africa Chinese Culture Development Center, together with the Chinese Consulate General in Cape Town.

During the show, state-level professional troupe of artists from China showcased the riveting fusion of sound and visuals to present Chinese traditional and modern fashions, including dances, renowned folk songs, astonishing acrobatic performances and more.

Rose Lynne, a school teacher, said she was astonished by the gorgeous performances, the first time for her to get the first taste of the Chinese culture.

"It was a joyful and unforgettable cultural night," she said.
