A "seven-story" building built from stone and earth by a mentally disabled man in Weifang, Shandong Province has come under media spotlight in the past few days.

The building looks more like a ramshackle tower that can collapse at any time.

Hu Guangzhou, 55, a villager living in the rural area of Linqu county, collected stones and earth over a decade to build a "home" for his two deceased younger brothers and himself.

Hu believes they are still alive, despite village officials' attempt to notify him about the truth.

Village officials tried to persuade him to give up work on the condemned building, but Hu kept at it. Out of fear of unexpected reaction from the mentally disabled man, the village government did not resort to forceful acts to dismantle the building.

Hu had lived in the building for a while, until finally being persuaded to move into a properly built house arranged by the village government before Spring Festival.

The village is planning to build a new house for Hu.
