A Chinese New Year event organised by London South Bank University (LSBU)'s Confucius Institute was held at the House of Commons on Tuesday night to further enhance the University's business engagement.

The Confucius Institute for Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) at LSBU is the world's first Confucius Institute for Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Cooperated with Petroineos Trading Limited, the celebration was hosted by MP Mark Hendrick, a member of Foreign Affairs Select Committee. He said the event was a chance for business and education to come together to discuss how companies can work closer with universities to enhance students' employment prospects.

Professor David Phoenix, Vice-Chancellor of LSBU expressed his Chinese Lunar New Year wishes and said in the next phase of their university's development is to start strengthening the link between the Confucius Institute and the rest of the university.

There are now 29 Confucius Institutes and 127 Confucius Classrooms all over Britain, according to Minister Counsellor Shen Yang, Education Section of the Chinese Embassy.

He said that education collaboration continues to be one of the highlights of China-UK bilateral relations, while language collaboration has always been one of the core parts of people-to-people exchange.

On the campus of LSBU, a series of Chinese New Year celebrations has also been held by the Confucius Institute for Traditional Chinese Medicine during the festival period. They worked with the university's National Bakery School to make dumplings with their students.
