The U.S. has reported the first known case of the Zika virus transmission in the country. In this rare case, the patient from the State of Texas was likely infected through sex, not a mosquito bite. Local health authorities said the person had not travelled to infected areas but had sexual contact with someone who had returned from Venezuela.

Meanwhile, the virus is quickly spreading. Chile has reported the country's first three cases of Zika on the mainland.

Ireland reported its first two cases, Australia also two cases. All contracted the virus whole travelling to affected countries.

Thailand is the worst hit country in Southeast Asia, with an average of five cases a year since 2012. The country has confirmed one case of the virus this year.
