Chinese film "Crosscurrent" will compete at the 66th Berlin International Film Festival, also called the Berlinale, as the complete lineup for the competition series was announced on Wednesday.

"Crosscurrent" directed by Chinese director Yang Chao will make its world premiere in Germany's capital city Berlin in February.

The 2016 competition lineup includes 19 world premieres with 21 participating countries and regions.

As the lineup showed, a total of 18 of the 23 films in the competition program, including "24 Weeks" by German writer and director Anne Zohra Berrached, "Alone in Berlin" by Swiss director Vincent Perez, "A Lullaby to the Sorrowful Mystery" by Filipino independent filmmaker Lav Diaz, will be vying for the Golden and Silver Bears.

"Hail, Caesar!" with Hollywood stars like George Clooney, Josh Brolin, Ralph Fiennes and Scarlett Johansson in the lead roles will open the 66th Berlin International Film Festival on Feb. 11, screening out of competition.

Three-time Oscar-winner and American actress Meryl Streep will serve as jury president of the seven-member international panel, which decides who will receive the Golden Bear and Silver Bear awards of the 2016 Berlinale competition.
