"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" continued to be number one in North America's box office for the fourth straight week.

The Disney reboot of the Star Wars franchise was on track to deal 41.6 million U.S. dollars in tickets in the United States and Canada this weekend.

With the film having been seen by so many moviegoers, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" was down a sharp 54 percent from last weekend.

Disney's "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" has fetched a North American sales record gross of 812 million in 24 days, according to Disney estimates. It is currently running 88.5 percent ahead of the 430.8 million dollars 24-day take of "Avatar" and 46 percent ahead of the 556.5 million 24-day gross of last year's "Jurassic World."

The film landed in China this weekend, and with a contribution from China's film market, its total box office revenue might go up. The film is now estimated to take in more than 1.7 billion dollars around the world.

Fox's "The Revenant" ranked second in North America. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, "The Revenant" opened at 3,375 locations with 38 million dollars in projected sales this weekend.

The film received a solid "B+" rating on CinemaScore and currently got a strong 81 percent critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The remaining of the 10 most popular films this weekend were "Daddy's Home" (15 million dollars), "The Forest" (13 million), "Sisters" (7.2 million), "The Hateful Eight" (6.4 million), "The Big Short" (6.3 million), "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip" (5.5 million), "Joy" (4.5 million) and "Concussion" (3.1 million).
