Many Chinese have campaigned on the internet in order to cancel a winter entertainment event -- dogsled.

As winter comes, dogsledding becomes one of the popular outdoor events in public parks as well as various ice and snow festivals in the north part of the vast country.

However, dogs' welfare is largely neglected as many of them are seen to drag the sleds singlehandedly and not given enough time to rest.

"Please don't take the dogsled when you go skating or skiing because these dogs are in such wretched conditions," said Chinese actress Joe Chen on the microblog, a Chinese equivalent to Twitter. "Sometimes they fall but have to struggle back on their feet and continue running. Their paws bleed."

Chen's suggestion, posted on Tuesday night, was soon retweeted nearly 80,000 times and liked by around 20,000.

"Sled dogs usually work as a group but those dog owners force the dogs to drag the sleds individually," one of Chen's followers commented under the post.
