December 13 is China's National Memorial Day for the 1937 Nanjing Massacre. Memorials on Sunday not only took place in Nanjing, where more than 300 thousand people were killed by Japan's wartime atrocity, but also in Hong Kong and Macao.
One ceremony was at the Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence. Present were Hong Kong chief executive Leung Chun-ying, and representatives various sectors, including former members of the Hong Kong Independent Battalion of the Dongjiang Column and war veteran groups.
Two minutes of silence were observed. Leung laid a wreath, guest representatives presented flowers, and all participants paid tribute.
Similar activities were held in Macao. More than 300 people, including Chief Executive Chui Sai On, were at the Macao Security Forces Training College. Wreaths were laid, and tributes were paid to the victims of the Nanjing Massacre.
